Water crisis settlement: Checks will be in the mail soon By MetroNews Staff September 6, 2018 - 10:55 pm CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A federal judge approved Thursday distributing the first round of checks to those affected by the 2014 Elk River chemical spill. Around 200,000 residents and businesses in total will receive checks totaling $73 million.
On Friday, settlement checks were mailed out to people who filed simple residential claims. They should arrive in the next few days if people have not received them already.
