how do you send a companion to another settlement

You have to send them to a settlement of choice. Yeah you can send them to whatever settlement you want. Pressing circle at the choice menu sends to their default spot UNLESS you have sent them to a settlement before, then they default to that last settlement and will never ever return to their default home again.

If you want to move a companion to a new home you can do so from the Workshop menu, same as any other settler. You do not need to have then join, then leave again. Not immediately obvious, but still intuitive once you figure it out.Jan 7, 2016
