Do you like this video? Free Settlement is a small deserted town located south of Brink. It belongs to the United Cities but there are no residents nor roaming guards. There are a couple ruined buildings and several of them have Building Materials, Iron Plates, Fuel and some less useful items.

Why are Shek warriors so good?

a Shek warrior due to combat bonuses. They have a horrible hunger rate, which is painful early, and a ton of job limitations, which can also be painful. But they are good at fighting. Note that they get targeted by the Holy Nation so that might limit you for early recruiting and trade in the central northern portion of the map.

How to protect miners from beak creatures?

Expanding your walled sections is the next priority, particularly in the north by the Vain Biome to protect your miners from the Beak creatures that roam there. You probably will not have researched large defensive walls yet, but you can always tear them down and put up new ones later on. You want two main entrances to your base that have funneled kill-zones (explained in Sec. 3, Killzones, below).

How rare are 3k recruits?

3k recruits should always be picked up (and obviously freebies) because in most playthroughs they are relatively rare in the early going for this area – most recruits are 6k – and the amount you save on these guys makes an impact.

They will be attacked on sight by the Holy Nation, and are very expensive to repair and maintain, even if they have no hunger. That said, if you do go that route, you can rent skeleton repair beds in Hive territory (as well as in other tech areas).

You can rely on mercs forever, but if you’d prefer not to , now is the time to start building up and training afighting group.” There are several ways you can do this – You can use a few training prisoners, training dummies, etc. Or you can form a hunting party with a few guys and try to hunt lesser creatures. I will be expanding on a hunting section after I experiment with it more. The raids and random attacks will also slowly build up your factions fighting capabilities while this is happening.

Starting an Outpost

Different regions in Kenshi offer very different resources and dangers. Before starting an Outpost, players should consider what they want to build and where they want to build it.

Visitors From Other Factions

These traveling merchants provide the player with chances to buy and sell goods while not having to venture to a city. Hive traders are a common visitor in the Border Zone and often have a large amount of food, materials, and plants to sell. They can facilitate starting or expanding farms but at potentially inflated prices.

Tips

Insulate your base from the world. Rampaging fauna and factions have a much harder time doing damage if your base is behind a wall.
