How do I upgrade my settlement in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla?

There are two ways to do so, though one is arguably faster than the other. The settlement in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is upgraded by constructing buildings, or completing story arcs. Your settlement in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be one of six ranks, starting out at rank 1 once you arrive in not-so-jolly England.

What are the benefits of upgrading my settlement?

Upgrading your Settlement offers you bonuses that include larger garrisons, more population capacity, more income, more reserve capacity, more building slots, better walls, prestige and faction-wide bonuses. It should be noted, however, that with each upgrade the required food is also increased to match your growing population.

How much resources does it take to build a settlement?

Most of the buildings will take 400 supplies and 30 raw materials but as your settlement levels up it will take more to build the unlocked buildings. When you level up your settlement it will give you more options for huts that you can build.

How to jumpstart upgrading settlement?

The best thing you can do to jumpstart the upgrading of your settlement is to raid monasteries, as this is the only way to gain raw materials. A raid is easy to start as you can either go up to the shore in your longship or blow the horn in your selectable menu. It is smart to only perform raids in areas that match your current power level, as anything too high will end with your quick demise and a failed raid.

What do you get when you level up your settlement?

When you level up your settlement it will give you more options for huts that you can build. The first rank will give you access to the Blacksmith, Hidden Ones Bureau, Trading Post, and Barracks. The second rank will give players access to Octavian's Museum, Brewery, Shipyard, Fishing Hut, Tattoo and Barber Shop, and the Bakery.

Why do you need to continue the story quest?

The reason for this is that the quests in the story will grant you several skill points, which can open up new areas for you to raid as your power level increases. You can seek out the mysteries, artifacts, and wealth as well to gain XP, but the story quests will give you the most.

What Buildings To Construct First?

All of the buildings with the Settlement have a value. Each and every building you construct does benefit the Raven Clan one way or another. However, there are definitely upgrades that are better purchased early in the game. While a lot of it depends on personal preference and playstyle, we’ve highlighted the positives for building the following:

Blacksmith

The Blacksmith is the first building you must construct. It costs 400 Supplies and 30 Raw Materials. It allows you to upgrade, enhance, and improve your weapons and equipment in exchange for increasingly rare metal ingots.

Hidden Ones Bureau

This building costs 400 Supplies and 30 Raw Materials. Constructing this first, after the Blacksmith is a good idea as it offers additional missions and rewards. However, you cannot build the Hidden Ones Bureau until a certain point in the story. After you pledge allegiance on the Alliance map, Hytham will appear at the Hidden Ones Bureau.

Barracks

The Barracks is available to construct once the Blacksmith has been built. It costs 400 Supplies and 30 Raw Materials. It allows you to create and recruit Jomsvikingr, and manage your Crew. A Jomsviking is a character you can create that can be hired to join other players’ crew, returning rewards to you if successful.

Trading Post

The Trading Post costs 400 Supplies and 3 Raw Materials. It let’s you buy and sell items with a Trader at your settlement. It’s better than regular trading spots as you can purchase new tattoos, hairstyles, ship cosmetics, and other unique items.

Stable & Aviary

The Stable & Aviary costs 400 Supplies and 30 Raw Materials to construct. It allows you to purchase, upgrade, and cosmetically change your horse & raven.

Fishing Hut (Colony Level Renown)

The Fishing Hut costs 600 Supplies and 45 Raw Materials. It unlocks the Fishing Line which adds a Fishing Rod to your quick wheel so you can catch fish. You can then trade fish in for deliveries at the Fishing Hut in exchange for metal bars, cosmetic items, and other rewards.

How to advance bar in Alliance?

Finally, you can advance the bar by completing zone “alliance” arcs from the Alliance Map. Each zone will have a reward icon, and a greenish-blue arrow indicates completing that arc will advance your settlement’s rank-up meter. These naturally take longer to complete than raiding and building, but they do provide more towards the meter than a single building. Raid and complete the story to upgrade your settlement from a small camp into a bustling village, and reap the rewards that come with it.

What to do if your companions are busy fighting?

If your companions are busy fighting they won’t help you, so if you find yourself waiting on someone to help check the area for hostiles. You can return to your settlement and use these supplies and raw materials to construct new buildings in your settlement.

What is the role of a village in a commandery?

No matter its size, a village remains the administrative centre of a commandery. Officials oversee the development of the commandery's village and its satellite resources here while acting as the local authority for the population. Some have lived here long enough to have lent their hands to the building of the village and may never venture beyond its borders, but the village itself can change: the mightiest oaks are born of acorns, and every village has the potential to grow to be a sprawling metropolis.
