In recent months, the German pharmaceutical firm Fresenius has been taken to task over its dialysis drug, Granuflo, over allegations that the drug has caused patients to suffer heart attacks.

When was Granuflo leaked?

An internal Fresenius memo dated November 4, 2011 that described 940 incidents of Granuflo-related heart attack was leaked to the FDA in early 2012, prompting the federal agency to investigate the manufacturer for fraudulent conduct. Fresenius maintained that they withheld information regarding the risks of overdose because the evidence was only preliminary. The company is accused of concealing this crucial information about GranuFlo side effects, since it never publicized the findings, nor did Fresenius inform health care professionals outside its own network of dialysis centers.
