how do you get food into the mechist lair settlement

well Setting up a Supply line is different then just storing the water in the workshop I honestly think that is the only way for the mechanist lair to get water and food is threw supply lines. Regardless of a supply line, each settlement still has to meet the standard number of built stuff there, such as defense, beds, food and....water.
